Clarke's Lost Empires Estate Auction - Monday, Feb 8th, 2010

Silver from the Ottomans, Portugal, and Spain; a Rolls Royce Silver Wraith, 16th Century Asian Pottery, a Meissen Collection; and American Empire Art and Furniture among 400 Lots of Sterling, Listed Fine Art, French Bronzes, Chandeliers, and Furniture

    LARCHMONT, NY, February 03, 2010 /Museums PR News/ -- On Monday, February 8th at 6:00 pm, Clarke Auction will sell 400 lots of its usual mix of the unusual, the exceptional, and the unique.

Estate Silver, a Clarke strength, features a heavily chased Ottoman-era lidded urn with a eagle finial poised over a possibly gold serpent. Other silver highlights include a tea service and flatware by Georg Jensen Denmark, a 175 piece service from Aldao Joyeria of Madrid, a Portuguese handled Bowl, heavy English Sterling, Tiffany flatware, and a c.1950 engraved Tiffany Sterling Globe in its original presentation box.

Decorative Arts includes a collection of Meissen birds, Lalique pieces, KPM and other porcelain plaques, a Dunhill Burl Humidor, c.1950 Baccarat Crystal Stemware in original box, KPM china, a large Kosta bowl, a French Crystal and Silver Ewer, a Bronze Easel-Form Vanity Mirror, a mounted Bronze Bust of a Goddess, possibly quite old with worn patina; and Madeleine Castaing Art Deco andirons.

Fine art includes a large midcentury oil by National Academician Jonah Kinigstein, a Judaic Bronze Bust by David Aronson, watercolors by the late Rico Lebruna, an Alan Glass construction, Oils by the Ukrainian Sergei Belik, contemporary paintings by Pat Adam, a 1922 copy of a Raphael triptych, Art Bronzes by EM Melingue and CD Rauch, a large Parian group by Edouard Lanteri, and an oil by Patrick Nasmyth. Of special interest are three American primitive paintings of children, direct from a Larchmont estate.

Antique and Fine Furniture incudes a pair of decorative bronze-mounted marble-top commodes, possibly Horner dining chairs, sideboard, and settee; 19th C. American slant front desk and lowboy, an Empire chest with carved columns, and a Victorian desk as well as a Tiffany tallcase clock from a local new Rochelle estate.

"This sale is heavy with great silver, and it's also extremely strong in fine art and sculpture, notes Ronan Clarke, founder and owner. "but if you'd like to add a Rolls Royce to your Mini, we have that as well."
