Titanic Exhibit Makes Second Voyage to Columbus
Expanded show to feature artifacts on display for the first time ever; Ohio connections
COLUMBUS, OH December 16, 2009 /Museums PR News/ -- The wildly popular Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition will make a second appearance at Columbus' COSI (Center of Science Industry), returning to the science museum on March 27, 2010. The exhibit will stay docked in Ohio's capital city until Sept. 6, 2010. Featuring nearly two dozen never-been-seen elements, the expanded Titanic exhibit will also include a gallery devoted to Ohio's connections to the historic voyage. The exhibition first landed in Columbus in 2005, bringing record-breaking attendance to COSI, which was recently named the #1 Science Center in the country by Parents magazine.
Nearly 100 new artifacts recovered from the Titanic wreckage will be featured in Columbus, 23 of which are making their world debut. The stirring exhibition tells the tragic tale of the famed ocean liner. Ideal for all ages, the exhibit features incredibly preserved artifacts that belonged to the ship and its passengers. Precious jewels, playing cards, personal letters, postcards and many other fascinating items will be artfully interpreted, bringing to life the true stories of the Titanic and the people who sailed on that fateful maiden voyage.
Upon entering the exhibit, guests receive a boarding pass bearing the name and personal information of an actual Titanic passenger. Visitors will become immersed in the experience as they take a highly personal chronological journey through the Titanic, from the ship's construction, to life on board. Guests will find authentic recreations of shipboard cabins and can even press their palms to an "iceberg" in order to experience how cold the water felt the night the ship sank. At nearly 15,000 square feet, Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition has been viewed by more than 22 million people worldwide from Chicago and Los Angeles to Paris and London.
Throughout the exhibition's run, COSI will be open 7 days a week, Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday 12 - 6 p.m. Ticket prices include admission to all of COSI's exhibit areas, including Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition. Cost is $23.75 for adults (13 to 59), $21.75 for seniors (60+), $16.75 for youth (2 to 12) and free for children under age 2.
