Lewis & Clark Expedition, Slave Trade, Jesse James Robbery Are Big Events in Small Town's Cell Phone Audio Tour

America's Most Notorious Events and Era Revealed through Liberty, Missouri Tour

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, July 23, 2009 /Museums PR News/ -- Guide by Cell, the nation's leading mobile technology provider for nonprofit organizations, announced that its cell phone audio guide service is part of a self-guided walking tour of Historic Downtown Liberty, Missouri. Regardless of whether visitors are curious about the once vigorous slave trading in Liberty town square, or the day the Jesse James gang cleared loot from the local bank, or how Lewis & Clark's journey led them to the area, all visitors will glean the significance of one mid-American town's place in history. And the only tool they need is their cell phone.

The audio tour is arranged in 83 tour stops highlighting the rich variety of events and people which make Liberty a historic city. For example, the tour begins in 1822, not long after Lewis and Clark's expedition brought them to the area. Visitors using the tour simply locate a sign for the audio tour, dial the local phone number using their own cell phone, and select the audio stops they wish to hear. Details such as legendary early settlers including Mormon prophet and founder Joseph Smith, and the significance of the town's proximity to a spring of clear, drinkable water, are all interesting facts in the context of life in small town mid-America at the time.

"Liberty has a unique and profound place in American history," said Rich Groves, Program Director for Historic Downtown Liberty, Inc. "This narrated, self-guided tour brings our town's history to life for anyone curious about what the Midwest was like and its people who settled here long ago."

"We chose to create a cell phone audio phone tour because we believed it was an exciting way for anyone visiting the area, or even those living here who want more information about Liberty, to have access to easily," added Groves. "We chose Guide by Cell because they offer the range of services we needed in an audio tour."

With numerous stop points of significance and enough noted events to rival any American history school book, the Historic Downtown Liberty audio tour is likely to attract historians, students, and the general public to the town for years to come.

"Historic Downtown Liberty offers an incredible breadth of history, events, and memorable characters -- all in one tour," stated David Asheim, President and Founder of Guide by Cell Inc. "Helping people learn more about history and their place in it is a large part of the Guide by Cell service. We are so pleased that our technology is being used to fulfill the goal of educating visitors through the history of fascinating Liberty, MO."
